Darrell Gordon Biography
Darrell Gordon is a former collegiate football player, attorney, author, and motivational speaker whose career spans athletics, law, and the nonprofit sector. Gordon was a starting outside linebacker on Notre Dame's National Championship Football Team and played in the Fiesta Bowl for his final collegiate game. He also participated in the Hula Bowl Football all-star game alongside NFL athletes including Deion Sanders, Derek Thomas, and Troy Aikman. Gordon was recognized as a White House guest of President Reagan and President Bush Sr. in acknowledgment of his team's athletic achievements.
Gordon holds three degrees from Notre Dame in economics, business, and administration, a law degree from Northern Kentucky, and completed Harvard's program for strategic perspective in nonprofit management. He also earned a certificate in fundraising management from the Indiana University School of Philanthropy. His professional experience includes an internship on the New York Stock Exchange, a managerial role with Advanced Drainage Systems, a professorship in sports law at Ball State, a clerkship with a Cincinnati law firm, a position with IMG sports management, and work with the NCAA's membership services group. At the NCAA, Gordon contributed to the development of the Stay in Bounds sportsmanship and character program, which was later adopted by the NFL and NBA.
Gordon has served as CEO and president of Wernle Youth & Family Treatment Center in Richmond, Indiana, a nonprofit organization providing care and treatment for at-risk youth and families. He has also worked as an adjunct sports law professor and in the NCAA's legislative and student athlete advisory department. Gordon has been recognized by his alma maters with the William D. Reynolds Award from Notre Dame and the Exceptional Service Award from the Chase College of Law for his contributions to youth advocacy and service.
