Darian Shirazi Biography
Darian Shirazi is a Silicon Valley entrepreneur, angel investor, and venture capitalist known for identifying transformative technology in its early stages. At age 15, Shirazi began purchasing computer components in bulk from Asia and marketing them on eBay, generating significant sales that led to an engineering internship at eBay. After two summers at eBay, he became the first intern hired at Facebook, then a startup based near his family home in Palo Alto, reporting directly to Mark Zuckerberg.
Following his time at Facebook, Shirazi briefly studied philosophy and computer science at UC Berkeley before leaving to pursue startups full-time. He launched Fwix, a local news aggregator that crawled the web for news and related content, serving as a tool for media companies to generate leads. Shirazi declined a $35 million acquisition offer from Google for Fwix, opting instead to rebrand the company as Radius and focus on local business data.
At Radius, a B2B customer data platform, Shirazi served as CEO, growing the company to more than 100 employees, raising over $100 million in venture capital, and serving Fortune 500 clients. Radius was later acquired by Kabbage. Shirazi has been recognized by Forbes as one of the top 30 entrepreneurs under 30 and has appeared as a guest speaker at events including CNBC's "Squawk Box" and Web Summit.
Shirazi joined Gradient Ventures, Google's AI-focused venture fund, as general partner. Gradient Ventures invests in early-stage artificial intelligence companies and provides operational support across marketing, talent, sales, engineering, and design. Shirazi has been an early investor in companies such as Lyft, Udemy, Carbon Health, and Palantir, and serves as an advisor and board member for companies including Gigs, Range, Spline, and Chili Piper. His career spans entrepreneurship, venture capital, and artificial intelligence, reflecting a focus on technology innovation and startup growth.
