Christopher Lyons is a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz and serves as president of Web3 Media at a16z crypto. Lyons joined Andreessen Horowitz as chief of staff to co-founder Ben Horowitz and has become a prominent figure at the intersection of venture capital, technology, and culture.
Before his current role, Lyons founded the firm's Cultural Leadership Fund, which connects cultural leaders—including athletes, entertainers, musicians, and executives—with technology companies. The fund is recognized as Silicon Valley's first venture capital fund comprised entirely of Black limited partners, supporting diversity and inclusion in the technology sector. Lyons raised an initial $15 million from a group of African-American influencers, including Nas, Shonda Rhimes, Kevin Durant, Quincy Jones, Chance the Rapper, and Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. The Cultural Leadership Fund donates all management fees and any fund upside to nonprofits focused on increasing diversity in technology.
The Cultural Leadership Fund has invested in more than 65 startups across industries such as consumer, enterprise, crypto, fintech, and healthcare/biotech. Lyons also contributed to the launch of Andreessen Horowitz's first $400 million seed fund. Through his work, Lyons established an "influencer network," creating strategic partnerships between technology companies and leaders from sports, entertainment, and business.
