Brock Pierce is a blockchain entrepreneur and venture capitalist known for founding, advising, and investing in businesses focused on digital currency, cryptocurrency, and blockchain technology. Pierce first gained public recognition as a child actor, portraying a young Emilio Estevez in "The Mighty Ducks" and appearing in "First Kid" as Luke Davenport. He retired from acting at age 17 to pursue entrepreneurial ventures.
Pierce began his business career in the gaming industry, founding IGE, a company that pioneered digital currency in online games and achieved revenues exceeding $100 million before being sold. He later founded IMI Exchange, a digital currency marketplace for games with annual sales surpassing $1 billion and investors including Goldman Sachs. IMI Exchange was sold for more than $100 million. Pierce also founded ZAM, a major media property for gamers, which was acquired by Tencent. These ventures established Pierce as a leader in the intersection of gaming, virtual economies, and digital currency.
In the cryptocurrency sector, Pierce serves as chairman of the Bitcoin Foundation and co-founded organizations such as EOS Alliance, Block.one, Blockchain Capital, Tether, Mastercoin, and Lighthouse NFT. Blockchain Capital was established as a sector-focused venture fund investing exclusively in blockchain technology companies and conducted the first initial coin offering (ICO) of a venture fund, creating the security token BCAP. The fund has made more than 100 investments across its portfolio. Tether, co-founded by Pierce, is recognized as the first stablecoin and asset-backed token, becoming the most traded cryptocurrency by volume. Block.one, also co-founded by Pierce, conducted the largest token sale in history through the EOS crowd sale.
Pierce is an early investor in Bitcoin and was among the largest investors in the Ethereum crowd sale. He ran as an independent candidate in the United States presidential election and led a delegation advising the government of El Salvador on Bitcoin adoption. Pierce became the first presidential candidate in U.S. history to receive a vote through an app using blockchain technology. He is also the founder of the Brock Pierce Foundation, which focuses on individual rights in education, the arts, and research in medicine and mental health.
