Cameron Cruse is an entrepreneur, designer, and advocate for military spouse employment, recognized as the co-founder of R. Riveter, an American-made handbag and accessories company. Cruse's journey into entrepreneurship was influenced by the realities of military life. After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Architecture from Savannah College of Art and Design, her career trajectory shifted when her husband's Army orders relocated their family to North Georgia. Facing challenges in finding meaningful work as a military spouse, Cruse partnered with fellow Army spouse Lisa Bradley. Together, they began designing and sewing handbags in an attic, launching R. Riveter with a shared investment and a single sewing machine. The company was established to provide mobile, flexible income opportunities for military spouses, regardless of their location.
As chief operating officer and co-founder, Cruse led R. Riveter's growth into a nationally recognized brand in the American manufacturing and fashion industries. The company employs a distributed manufacturing model, enabling military spouses across the United States to craft components of handmade goods from their homes. R. Riveter introduced its first product, the "Grant" tote bag, at a trade show and later opened a flagship store in Southern Pines, North Carolina. - Riveter's profile increased after Cruse and Bradley appeared on a veteran-focused episode of ABC's "Shark Tank," where investor Mark Cuban offered $100,000 and a line of credit for new machinery in exchange for a 20 percent equity stake.
