Brian McKnight Biography
Brian McKnight is an American R&B singer-songwriter, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist known for his smooth vocals and emotionally resonant ballads. McKnight is recognized for his strong falsetto and belting range, which have contributed to his enduring presence in contemporary soul music. His musical journey began in childhood as a member of his church choir, and he has since developed expertise as a singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, proficient in nine instruments including piano, guitar, bass, drums, trombone, tuba, French horn, and trumpet.
After signing his first record deal with Mercury Records at age 19, McKnight gained recognition with his self-titled debut album, followed by albums such as "I Remember You" and "Anytime." The latter achieved commercial success, selling over 2 million copies and earning a Grammy Award nomination. His fifth studio album featured singles including "Love of My Life" and the duet "My Kind of Girl" with Justin Timberlake. McKnight has collaborated with artists such as Mase, Sean Combs, Mary J. Blige, Justin Timberlake, Nelly, and Vanessa Williams.
McKnight released "Back at One," which sold over 3 million copies and produced the chart hit of the same name, reaching number two in the United States and entering the top 10 in Canada and New Zealand. Over his career, McKnight has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide and received multiple Grammy Award nominations. His accolades include an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Male Artist and a Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul Male, as well as nominations for American Music Awards and MTV Video Music Awards.
McKnight's album "Genesis" featured three top 30 Urban AC and AC hits—"Everything," "Forever," and "I Want U"—and debuted in the top 10 on the Nielsen SoundScan Top 10 Current R&B albums. The album earned NAACP Image Award nominations for Outstanding Male Artist and Outstanding Album. In addition to his recording career, McKnight has appeared in the Broadway production of "Chicago" and served as a red carpet host for Extra. He also hosted "The Brian McKnight Morning Show" with Pat Prescott on KTWV The Wave in Los Angeles. Brian McKnight Is Back and “Better” Than Ever
You know the Valentine’s Day cliché: put on some Brian McKnight to set the mood. The crooner is back with a video for his brand new single “Better,” another romantic ballad for the lover in you. “Girl, ever since you walked into my life / You took everything that’s wrong and made it right, that’s what you did,” he sings on the first verse, and declares the relationship “keeps getting better.” The visual is simple as McKnight sings the song backstage and during rehearsal at a theater. “Better” follows Brian’s previous release “Uh Oh Feeling”, both of which should be on his forthcoming album via Kobalt Music.
