Andy Hargreaves Biography
Andy Hargreaves is a Visiting Professor at the University of Ottawa in Canada and a Research Professor at Boston College in the US. He is an elected member of the US National Academy of Education, former President of the International Congress of School Effectiveness and Improvement (2018-2020), and former Adviser in Education to the Premier of Ontario (2015-2018). Currently, Hargreaves serves as an adviser to the First Minister of Scotland and is the co-founder and president of the ARC Education Collaboratory.
Hargreaves has authored more than 30 books and has received 8 Outstanding Writing Awards. His works focus on topics such as change, cooperative teaching, education, employee development, and leadership. A prolific keynote speaker and workshop leader, he has delivered addresses in more than 50 countries, 47 US states, and all Australian and Canadian states and provinces. He has been honored in Canada, the US, and the UK for services to public education and educational research, and is ranked by Education Week (US) as the #15 scholar with the most influence on the US education policy debate. His recent books include "Well-being in Schools: Three Forces that Will Uplift Your Students in a Volatile World" and "Five Paths of Student Engagement" (both with Dennis Shirley), "Moving: A Memoir of Education and Social Mobility", and "Collaborative Professionalism: When Teaching Together Means Learning for All" with Michael O’Connor.
In addition to his writing and speaking, Hargreaves is actively involved in a project funded by the LEGO Foundation, managing a network of 40-plus schools using play-based learning with minoritized students across Canada. His commitment to expanding educational opportunities and improving educational practices remains a cornerstone of his professional endeavors.
