Alissa Chavez is an American inventor, entrepreneur, and public speaker recognized for developing "Hot Seat," a child safety device designed to prevent heatstroke deaths of children accidentally left in vehicles. Chavez applied for a patent as a teenager, which was granted several years later, making her one of the youngest Latina patent holders in the United States, receiving her first patent at age 17. She is the founder and CEO of Assila, a company focused on child safety and innovation.
Chavez conceived the "Hot Seat" alarm at age 14 as a science fair project after learning about the dangers children face when left in cars. The device features a pad that detects if a child is present and communicates wirelessly with a fob on a parent's key chain. If the parent moves more than 10 meters away without the child, the system triggers alerts on the fob, the parent's smartphone via an app, and the car itself. Chavez collaborated with engineers to refine the product and used crowdfunding to develop a prototype for manufacturing. She later expanded her product line with "EasyFlo," an eco-friendly baby bottle designed to reduce plastic waste associated with on-the-go bottle preparation.
