Ali Siddiq Biography
Ali Siddiq is a stand-up comedian, writer, and public speaker known for his distinctive storytelling style in contemporary comedy. Siddiq developed his approach to stand-up while serving time in a Texas prison, where he began honing his craft. He first gained national attention with appearances on HBO's "Def Comedy Jam" and "Live From Gotham," and was named Comedy Central's No. 1 Comic to Watch.
Siddiq's career began at the Just Joking Comedy Cafe and expanded after his appearance on Ari Shaffir's Comedy Central web show "This Is Not Happening." His story about being unprepared for a prison riot became an online success and led to a full-length special on Comedy Central. Siddiq continued with a half-hour special on Comedy Central, followed by an hour-long special, "Ali Siddiq: It's Bigger Than These Bars," performed for inmates in a Texas jail. He also won Comedy Central's inaugural Up Next competition and was a finalist on NBC's competition TV show "Bring the Funny."
Building on his early television exposure, Siddiq independently released a series of personal comedy specials, including the four-part stand-up series "The Domino Effect 1–4." This series, which explores his life growing up in Houston's Third Ward, experiences with crime, family loss, and his path to comedy, has garnered more than 45 million views and established Siddiq among the top-viewed comedians on YouTube. Each installment of "The Domino Effect" has contributed to his reputation for narrative-driven comedy.
Siddiq's additional hour-long specials, such as "My Two Sons," "Rugged," and "Mondays," have also achieved significant viewership on YouTube. He received the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Variety (Series or Special) for "Ali Siddiq: My Two Sons," marking a milestone for independently produced comedy.
