The talk that Aaron Lazar gave at Duke University for DEMAN Weekend (Duke Entertainment, Media & Arts Network) was, simply put, the greatest and most impactful speech I have ever heard in my life. This sentiment was echoed by all attendees. When building out the schedule for the multi-day event, Aaron suggested that his speech be the last event of the weekend, and I’m so grateful for that suggestion – there was not a dry eye in the house. There is no speech or event that could have followed Aaron’s. The vulnerability, strength, and resilience that Aaron exhibited in his speech were inspiring and powerful. Aaron has been a spectacular speaker and motivator on my behalf for three different programs, each with their own unique audience and challenge. I appreciated experiencing the recording of the session with Aaron Lazar. I was thunderstruck by what he did onstage. But it had a special place in my heart because of a good friend struggling with Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, another autoimmune disease. The road these people travel to even get to a point where they have a diagnosis should evaporate all hope. She would benefit greatly by hearing what Aaron had to say. I think his presentation could changes lives.

From receiving this ground-shaking news to finding the stamina to find meaning in each day, cherishing the beautiful moments as they happen, and prioritizing hope, Aaron walked us through his deeply relatable processing of the diagnosis.
