William L. Roper Biography
Dr. William L. Roper, M.D., M.P.H. serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the UNC Health Care System. Dr. Roper serves as a Dean of the UNC School of Medicine and has been Vice Chancellor for Medical Affairs of UNC in Mach 2004. He is Dean for School of Public Health of University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. He serves as a Professor of health policy and administration in the UNC School of Public Health and a Professor of pediatrics in the UNC School of Medicine. From 1997 to March 2004, Dr. Roper served as Dean of the UNC School of Public Health. He served as Senior Vice President of Prudential HealthCare from August 1993 to May 1997. He joined Prudential in 1993 as President of the Prudential Center for Health Care Research. He served as an Administrator of Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) from 1986 to 1989. He has been an Independent Director of Aristotle Holding, Inc. since April 2012. Dr. Roper serves as a Director of Delhaize America Inc. He has been an Independent Director of Express Scripts Holding Company since April 2012 and DaVita HealthCare Partners Inc. (a/k/a, Davita, Inc) since May 2001. He serves as a Director of UNC Health Care System and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. He serves as a Member of Board of Advisor of Drug Safety Alliance, Inc. He served as a Director of Medco Health Solutions, Inc. since December 10, 2007. He served as a Director of Etablissements Delhaize Frères et Cie "Le Lion" (Groupe Delhaize) SA from May 2003 to July 31, 2008. Dr. Roper served as a Director of Quintiles Transnational Corp. since May 2002. He served as a Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from 1990 to 1993 and on the senior White House staff in 1989 and 1990. He served as a Director of Luminex Corporation since March 2000. He serves as a Member of the President's Commission on White House Fellowships and Chairman of the National Quality Forum. He serves as a Member of the Advisory Board of Constella Group, LLC. He is also a Member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences. He holds an MD from the University of Alabama School of Medicine and his Masters in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health. He completed his residency in pediatrics at the University of Colorado Medical Center.
