Tullian Tchividjian Biography
Tullian Tchividjian is a pastor, author, and speaker known for his work in Christian ministry and his focus on grace-centered theology. He is a grandson of Christian evangelist Billy Graham and a graduate of Columbia International University, where he earned a degree in philosophy, as well as Reformed Theological Seminary, where he received a Master of Divinity. The middle of seven children, Tchividjian left high school and his home at age 16, later experiencing a significant faith transformation that shaped his approach to ministry.
Tchividjian served as the founding pastor of New City Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, which later merged with Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, where he became senior pastor. His installation at Coral Ridge succeeded founding pastor D. James Kennedy and drew significant attendance. Tchividjian also served as a visiting professor of theology at Reformed Theological Seminary. During his tenure at Coral Ridge, he founded LIBERATE, a ministry dedicated to connecting the message of grace with a broad audience through conferences, publishing, radio, and television.
Tchividjian has authored several books, including "It Is Finished: 365 Days of Good News," "One Way Love: Inexhaustible Grace for an Exhausted World," "Glorious Ruin: How Suffering Sets You Free," and "Jesus + Nothing = Everything." "Jesus + Nothing = Everything" received recognition from Christianity Today, and both "Glorious Ruin" and "Jesus + Nothing = Everything" were finalists for the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association Book of the Year. Tchividjian has contributed to various publications and has spoken at conferences, churches, universities, and seminaries. His media appearances include Sean Hannity, Fox & Friends, 60 Minutes, CBS News, The Ingraham Angle, Morning Joe, and the 700 Club.
Following his resignation from Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church after admitting to an extramarital affair, Tchividjian founded The Sanctuary in Jupiter, Florida, with his wife Stacie. The Sanctuary is described as a recovery-focused church, where Tchividjian continues to address topics such as forgiveness, mercy, and second chances, drawing from his personal experiences.
Tchividjian's memoir, "Carnage & Grace," explores his journey through personal and professional challenges, recovery, and the role of grace in his life. He discusses the complexities of pastoral leadership, the importance of authenticity, and the need for supportive communities within Christian ministry. Tchividjian's experiences inform his ongoing work in Christian leadership, theology, and recovery ministry.
