Tom Henricks Biography
Terence “Tom” Henricks is a retired U.S. Air Force colonel, former NASA astronaut, and business executive who flew on four Space Shuttle missions, spending more than 42 days in space. Born in Bryan, Ohio, Henricks grew up in Woodville and earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1974 and a master’s degree in public administration from Golden Gate University in 1982.
Henricks built a distinguished military aviation career as an F-4 fighter pilot and F-16 test pilot before NASA selected him as an astronaut in 1985. Between 1991 and 1996, he flew aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis, Columbia, and Discovery, serving as pilot on two missions and commander on two others. His missions included deploying satellites and conducting scientific experiments, and he helped advance the development and operation of the Space Shuttle program.
After retiring from NASA and the Air Force in 1997, Henricks transitioned to the private sector, holding leadership positions with Bell Helicopter Textron and The Timken Company before becoming president of McGraw-Hill’s Aviation Week media group. He subsequently consulted on aerospace projects and startups.
