This is a highly crafted story-cycle performance with live harp compositions, adapted from the classic stories of Roman poet, Ovidius Naso. Its aim is to capture at the source those stories that influenced western art and culture at the DNA level. For two decades now, Todd Conner has astonished audiences of all ages with the vitality still contained in these ancient Greco-Roman myths, told with no electronic gimmicks, no technological hedging or excuses, with nothing more than a unrelenting commitment to the muscular language and metaphor. And a harp. You, too, will be astonished.
This is an interactive presentation about how "Uncle Ovid's Storytime & Stand-up Metamorphoses" was created out of Todd Conner's experience working at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles. It describes how the author, a young actor in Hollywood at the time, set out to rediscover storytelling at its bardic roots in a sort of storytelling version of the "Lindbergh Solo Flight," crossing an oceanic divide of narrative style to recover the technology of storytelling (verse) as it may have functioned thousands of years ago— counterintuitive entirely to the industrial model of Hollywood. Along the way, he offers a theory toward a different approach to storytelling, a human alternative to the era of Artifice we are now entering with A.I.
