Dan Levy is a Canadian actor, writer, producer, and director. Levy gained early recognition as a co-host on "MTV Canada" and has since become a prominent figure in the entertainment industry. His career also includes roles in various television shows and films such as "Happiest Season," "Modern Family," and "Curb Your Enthusiasm."
Levy co-created, produced, and starred in the acclaimed television series "Schitt's Creek" alongside his father, Eugene Levy. Premiering in 2015, the show quickly earned a broad fanbase, with Levy’s portrayal of David Rose, a fashion-forward and pansexual character, drawing particular acclaim. The series became the first to win a Primetime Emmy Award in all four major comedy acting categories in a single year and earned Levy four Emmys for acting, writing, directing, and producing. Levy's work on "Schitt's Creek" also gained him four Canadian Screen Awards.
Levy has been recognized for his efforts in advocating for LGBTQ+ representation in media. His work, particularly in "Schitt's Creek," has been acknowledged for creating authentic and inclusive content. His dedication to storytelling that challenges norms and celebrates diversity has enhanced his influence in contemporary television. He made his directorial debut with the drama "Good Grief" in 2023. In addition, Levy has appeared in episodes of "Sex Education" and hosted "Saturday Night Live." He also joined Julia Chan as a host for "The Great Canadian Baking Show." His work has expanded beyond television and film, with appearances as a keynote speaker at The Infatuation's annual food festival, EEEEEATSCON, and as a guest host on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." He also enrolled in and promoted the "Indigenous Canada" course and hosted livestream interviews with the course instructors.
Living between Toronto and Los Angeles, Levy continues to be a dynamic force in the entertainment industry. With his unique blend of humor and heartfelt storytelling, he is recognized for pushing the boundaries of television. In 2023, Levy's contributions were further recognized when he was named a Member of the Order of Canada. Levy will host the 7th Annual Emmy Awards alongside his father, Eugene.
