Stephen Chbosky Biography
Stephen Chbosky is an established film director, screenwriter, and author recognized for his extensive contributions to various facets of the entertainment industry. Chbosky first gained major attention for his bestselling novel "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," which he later adapted into a film he directed and released in 2012. His filmography continued to expand with the 2017 film "Wonder" and the 2021 film adaptation of "Dear Evan Hansen." Beyond his directorial feats, Chbosky showcased his writing prowess by publishing his first psychological horror novel, "Imaginary Friend," in October 2019.
Chbosky's work on "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" earned him a nomination for the Best Adapted Screenplay category at the 2013 Writers Guild Awards. The film later won the 2013 Independent Spirit Awards for Best First Feature and the 2013 People's Choice Award for Best Dramatic Movie. His writing versatility was further displayed when he re-wrote the script for the 2017 live-action reboot of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast." He also served as co-creator, executive producer, and writer of the CBS serial television drama "Jericho" from 2006 to 2008, demonstrating his adaptability in different media formats.
Apart from directing and screenwriting, Chbosky has been actively involved in television and literature. His second novel, "Imaginary Friend," debuted as a Top 10 New York Times Best Seller in October 2019. His humanitarian work earned him the Humanitarian Satellite Award in 2017. Chbosky continues to contribute to the industry through his involvement in the production of "Weekend Warriors" and directed the film "Nonnas," which was released in 2025.
