Steph Davis Biography
Steph Davis's climbing career spans over 25 years with historic achievements such as being the first woman to free climb the Salathe Wall on El Capitan and the second woman to free climb El Cap in under 24 hours. She has also accomplished first ascents of challenging rock climbs and high-altitude mountains from Yosemite to the Karakorum. Davis is notably the first woman to free-solo the North Face of Mount Castleton.
Davis's exceptional skills extend to high-risk sports including free solo climbing, where she uses no ropes or protective gear, and wingsuit base jumping, making her one of the top practitioners globally. Her unique combination of these disciplines, particularly as a woman, sets her apart in the extreme sports community. She is recognized as the most accomplished female free soloist in the world.
Starting off as a classically trained pianist, Davis holds a Master’s degree in literature. Her life took a dramatic turn when she left law school to dedicate herself to climbing full-time, leading to a successful career as a professional climber. Davis has authored memoirs such as "Learning to Fly" and "High Infatuation," sharing her experiences. She maintains a popular blog that delves into community, health and wellness, simple living, and travel, and also offers vegan recipes.
As a public speaker, Davis integrates her climbing, BASE jumping, and skydiving experiences to discuss themes such as overcoming fears, managing risks, and the parallels between extreme sports and personal or business challenges. Her talks are enriched with stunning videos and images, enhancing the resonance of her message. She also owns and operates Climb2Fly Productions in Moab, Utah, a company specializing in climbing and base jumping stunts. Men’s Journal has recognized her as one of the most adventurous women of the past quarter-century, underscoring her influence and inspiration in the realm of extreme sports.
