Stella McCartney Biography
Stella McCartney, an accomplished fashion designer, has had an extensive career marked by significant milestones in the fashion industry. She began her tenure as the creative director of Chloé in 1997, a position she held until 2001. Shortly after, McCartney launched her own fashion house in a joint venture with Gucci Group, now known as Kering. Over the years, she has expanded her business to include 51 freestanding stores in locations such as Manhattan's Soho, London's Mayfair, and LA's West Hollywood. McCartney’s influence also extends to the world of fragrance and skincare, as she launched her first perfume, "Stella", in 2003, followed by a 100% organic skincare line, CARE, in 2007.
McCartney's innovative contributions to the fashion industry have earned her numerous awards and recognitions, including the VH1/Vogue Designer of the Year award in 2000. She was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to fashion in the 2013 New Year Honours. Continuing her commitment to sustainable fashion, she was awarded Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2022 for her services to fashion and sustainability. McCartney's dedication to sustainability is also reflected in her work with the United Nations, where she launched a new fashion industry charter for climate action in December 2018.
Beyond her fashion empire, McCartney has also used her platform to advocate for animal rights. As a lifelong vegetarian, she does not use leather or fur in her designs and has been a constant supporter of animal rights. This commitment led to her being named PETA's "Person of the Year" in 2024. Furthermore, McCartney’s passion for promoting health and wellness saw her launch the Stella McCartney Cares Foundation in 2018, focusing on breast cancer support.
