Stacy Pearsall Biography
Stacy L. Pearsall is the producer and host of the PBS series “After Action” and a Nikon Ambassador. She co-hosts the “Tango Alpha Lima” podcast for The American Legion, mentors photography students at The Citadel, and, with her husband Andy Dunaway, preserves European draft horses on their South Carolina farm.
Pearsall began her career as a U.S. Air Force photographer at 17, traveling to over 41 countries and completing the Military Photojournalism Program at Syracuse University. She earned numerous military honors, including the Bronze Star, two Air Medals and two Air Force Commendation Medals with Valor, and is one of only three women to win Military Photographer of the Year, earning it twice.
Retired and combat-disabled, Pearsall founded the Emmy-winning Veterans Portrait Project in 2008 to honor fellow veterans, documenting more than 8,500 service members across all 50 states. She continues to work worldwide as a photographer, educator, and consultant for the Department of Defense and State Department.
Her achievements have earned her the Jefferson Award, Hill Vets 100 Artist of the Year, White House Champion of Change recognition, and induction into the Army Women’s Foundation and Defense Information School Halls of Fame. She also holds an honorary doctorate in journalism from The Citadel.
