Mike Rowe Biography

As a teenager, Mike Rowe began a career as a standup comic in New York City, where he performed at notable clubs like The Improv, The Comedy Cellar, and Caroline’s Comedy Club. From there, he landed a job writing jokes for "Saturday Night Live"’s Weekend Update and sketches for shows on MTV, A&E, and Comedy Central. This brought him to Hollywood, where he wrote for a comedy sketch show starring Martin Short and began his profession as a sitcom writer.

Rowe wrote and produced shows for stars such as George Clooney, Ted Danson, and Nicolas Cage. He wrote with Eddie Murphy on his animated show "The PJs," which led to his animation career as a writer and producer on the series "Family Guy" and "Futurama." More recently, he wrote, produced, and directed the animated series "The Trailer Park Boys" for Netflix.

His feature writing career began with a comedy he co-wrote with Bob Odenkirk called "Mr. Bad Kung Fu Super Pimp." He has also stepped out of the comedy arena to write thriller features, including the recently produced "Big Lies in a Small Town."

He was a co-executive producer on Comedy Central’s animated series "Brickleberry and Paradise PD" and a contributing writer on Danny McBride’s animated series "CHOZEN" on FX. In 2013, he wrote and produced a documentary on The Improv comedy club starring many of the comics he started with, like Larry David, Ray Romano, and Sarah Silverman. He is a long-standing, frequent contributor to the ongoing Comedy Central Roasts, including the roasts of Donald Trump, Justin Bieber, Roseanne, and James Franco. His writing has appeared in Vanity Fair magazine as well. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, twin sons, and a silly dog named Marty Allen.

Rowe has been nominated for 7 Emmys (winning 1), 2 Annie Awards, a WGA Award, a Canadian Screen Award, and a Webby.
