Mike Bonifer Biography
Mike Bonifer is the author of GameChangers – Improvisation for Business in the Networked World, and the co-founder, with Dr. Virginia Kuhn, of GameChangers, LLC. helps people communicate clearly, collaborate productively, and innovate in tune and tempo with the marketplace.
Bonifer began his professional life with a series of game-changes: Over a 3 year period, he went from selling Duncan Hines cake mixes and Jif peanut butter (they called him Mr. Jif) for Procter & Gamble to writing a best-selling book about Notre Dame football, to working at Walt Disney Pictures as the senior publicist on the motion picture TRON.
From there, the game-changing has never really stopped: Bonifer was a founding producer for The Disney Channel, for which he directed and produced the documentary series The Disney Family Album, about legendary Disney artists and performers. With the major entertainment companies as his clients, he produced hundreds of media projects that span platforms, genres, and distribution channels.
In 1993, he co-wrote and directed the feature film, The Lipstick Camera, starring Terry O’Quinn, Sandahl Bergman, and the one and only Corey Feldman. In addition to GameChangers, he has authored the books Out of Bounds—an Anecdotal History of Notre Dame Football (with L.G. Weaver), The Art of TRON and The Making of Dick Tracy.
In 1994, Bonifer produced the web site for Toy Story for Disney and Pixar, which began his exploration of the internet as a platform for business communication. As a creative executive for BoxTop Interactive, then iXL, Bonifer was at the epicenter of the Dotcom era, with groundbreaking internet projects for clients like Disney, Mountain Dew, Merrill Lynch Japan and The Smithsonian Online.
In from 2002 to 2006, Bonifer co-founded, and served as a Vice-President of Creative for Network LIVE, a leading producer of live music events online. In 2006-7, he was Chief Storyteller for Kevin Wall and Al Gore’s Live Earth, a a global music event focused on climate change. GameChangers opened for business in January of 2008.
