Matan Zohar, professionally known as Mat Zo, is a British electronic music producer and DJ celebrated for his genre-defying approach and innovative soundscapes. Born in London, England, he was immersed in a rich musical environment from an early age.
By his early teens, Mat was composing music and, at 13, began producing electronic tracks using Logic Pro. Influenced by artists like Daft Punk and The Chemical Brothers, he released his debut single, "No Hassle," at 16, garnering attention from prominent labels such as Armada and Anjunabeats. Simultaneously, he explored drum and bass under the alias MRSA, releasing tracks on labels like Hospital Records.
In 2013, Mat Zo released his debut album, "Damage Control," through Anjunabeats and Astralwerks. The album received critical acclaim and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album. It featured the hit single "Easy," a collaboration with Porter Robinson, which achieved significant chart success.
Seeking greater creative freedom, Mat established his own label, Mad Zoo, in 2014. Under this imprint, he released his second studio album, "Self Assemble," in 2016, expressing a desire to explore beyond the confines of the EDM industry. Despite contemplating a departure from the scene, he continued to innovate, forming collaborative projects like "Kill the Zo" with Kill the Noise and "The Mary Nixons" with The Knocks.
In 2020, Mat Zo returned to Anjunabeats to release his third album, "Illusion of Depth," showcasing his continued evolution as an artist. His track "Colours," featuring Olan, was featured in the video game Forza Horizon 5 in 2021.
