Porter Robinson Biography
Porter Robinson, the American DJ, record producer, and singer-songwriter, began his journey into the world of electronic music at an early age. His talent was recognized by Skrillex's record label OWSLA, which he signed to at just 18. With the release of his debut EP, "Spitfire," in 2011, Robinson's career took off, leading to his debut full-length studio album, "Worlds," in 2014 peaking at number one on Billboard's Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart. Notable collaborations with artists like Madeon and Zedd and headlining performances at popular music festivals such as Ultra Music Festival, Electric Daisy Carnival, and Coachella further established Robinson's presence in the music industry.
He also produced music under the alias Virtual Self, releasing a self-titled EP in 2017. His single "Ghost Voices" earned him a nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording. In 2021, Robinson released his second studio album, "Nurture," which debuted at number one on Billboard's Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart and received widespread acclaim. His influence on the broader sound of EDM is recognized widely, and he has appeared on Billboard's 21 Under 21 list and been nominated for Single of the Year and Live Act of the Year at the Electronic Music Awards.
Robinson's philanthropic work includes sizable donations to patients with Burkitt Lymphoma in Malawi through The Robinson Malawi Fund and to the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund through the Secret Sky Online Music Festival. His personal life has also influenced his music, with his experiences with depression reflected in his album, "Nurture." His most recent album, "Smile! :D," will be released in 2024.
