Marjorie Herrera Lewis Biography
Marjorie Herrera Lewis is an author known for her book "When the Men Were Gone". The novel was released in 2018 and it about a woman who coached football in Brownwood, Texas during World War II. It is based on a true story.
Lewis is also the co-editor of SportsDay Bound, which is a collection of sports stories published by The Dallas Morning News. She is also a professor at the University of North Texas where she teaches media ethics. Additionally, Lewis was the first woman from any news entity assigned to the Dallas Cowboys beat while with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Lewis has always had an interest in sports, and throughout her career she worked as a sportswriter. She covered college and professional sports, including the Texas Rangers and Dallas Mavericks. She also covered the Super Bowl, Wimbledon, and the NCAA men's basketball tournament.
While writing When the Men Were Gone, she became inspired to try her hand at coaching football and was added to the Texas Wesleyan University football coaching staff. She presently teaches media ethics at the University of North Texas.
