Wisdom Martin Biography
Wisdom Martin, a veteran journalist and anchor, has been a prominent figure in the DC market since 2003. He currently occupies the morning slot on the WUSA 9 show "Get Up DC," where he has been stationed since September 2023. Before joining WUSA 9, Martin had a 20-year stint at WTTG as a morning anchor and host.
Martin was the first reporter on the scene for the Emmy Award-winning live coverage of serial bank robbers in Washington. His global coverage includes reporting live from Miami on the murder of NFL player Sean Taylor and from New Orleans, covering the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Martin has also reported on several presidential inaugurations, cementing his status as a well-rounded journalist.
His journalistic journey began while he was still a sophomore at Jackson State University, working for WAPT News as a news photographer, editor, and sports reporter. As a college senior, Martin covered the trial of Byron De La Beckwith, who was convicted of the 1963 murder of civil rights leader Medgar Evers. After leaving Jackson, he covered news and sports at KSEE in Fresno, California; WRAL in Raleigh, North Carolina; weekend anchor at CNN in Atlanta; and anchor/reporter at WKRN in Nashville, Tennessee.
In addition to his broadcasting career, Martin is also a published author. His works include "Pass Interference: The History of the Black Quarterback in the NFL" and "Conventional Wisdom."
