Khevin Barnes Biography
Khevin Barnes is a performer, writer, and health advocate with a career spanning more than three decades in stage magic, music, playwriting, and keynote speaking. Barnes began his performance career touring with his magical stage show as Dr. Wilderness for the United States Department of Defense, visiting children in Japan, Germany, Okinawa, and Korea. His shows combined education, music, and magic with themes of natural history and environmental awareness. Barnes performed for corporate events with the Walt Disney Company and was featured in "The Dr. Wilderness" family television special for Earth Day, which aired on CBS stations nationwide and received several Emmy Awards. Dr. Wilderness Inc. was established as a nonprofit organization, bringing touring programs to performing arts centers, schools, and festivals across the United States.
Barnes later developed speaking programs on imagination and creativity for audiences aboard Princess Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean Cruises, expanding his work as a corporate keynote speaker. Earlier in his career, Barnes contributed to entertainment and public engagement at the Walt Disney Company and Disneyland Resort as a keynote speaker, stage magician, Disney lecturer, and cast member. He is an Emmy Award-winning television writer and a regular contributor to Cure Magazine, Coping Magazine, Anti-Cancer Club, and Cancer Survivors Thrive.
Barnes was diagnosed with stage one, grade three breast cancer, a condition that represents less than 1 percent of all breast cancer cases. He has spoken openly about the isolation and confusion that accompanied his diagnosis, using his experience to raise awareness and advocate for male breast cancer. After mastectomy surgery, Barnes continued to reach audiences with stage shows exploring breast cancer in both women and men.
Barnes works as an activist supporting male breast cancer causes and wrote and composed the stage musical "Sons of Saint Agatha," a dark comedy exploring male breast cancer. He is a contributing writer for Cure Magazine, Huffington Post, Coping Magazine, Cancer Survivors Thrive Magazine, Anti-Cancer Club, and Cancer Knowledge Network. Barnes is also the creator and host of "The Dr. Wilderness Show," a touring science and magic program that combines storytelling, science, and stage magic. His song "What Good is a Breast?" offers a humorous perspective on the human breast, reflecting his approach to addressing health topics with both humor and insight. Barnes is recognized for his work in cancer survivorship, entertainment, and health advocacy, drawing on his personal journey to connect with audiences.
