Katlin Smith is the founder and CEO of Simple Mills, a Chicago-based company recognized for its role in advancing the clean food movement and shaping the natural foods industry. Smith began her career as a management consultant at Deloitte before a personal health transformation led her to pursue a new direction. After adopting a Paleo diet and finding limited store-bought options suitable for her lifestyle, Smith developed her own recipes using ingredients such as almond flour and coconut sugar.
Smith's entrepreneurial journey began without a background in food production or distribution. She contacted Whole Foods to sell her "Almond Flour Muffin Mix," and the chain agreed to carry the product. To further develop her business acumen, Smith earned an MBA in Entrepreneurship from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Simple Mills has grown into a leading provider of better-for-you snacks, offering a range of baking mixes, crackers, cookies, and snack bars free from gluten, grains, soy, corn, GMOs, gums, emulsifiers, and artificial ingredients. The company has achieved significant market presence, ranking as the fastest-growing natural baking mix and cracker brand, the second natural baking mix brand by dollars sold, and the third natural cracker brand by dollar volume.
