Joey McGuire Biography
Joey McGuire was introduced as Texas Tech’s head football coach on Nov. 9, 2021.
In his first season at Texas Tech, McGuire led the Red Raiders to their best season since 2009. He also led the team to wins over rivals Texas and Oklahoma, the first time it’s been done in the same season in school history.
Before joining Texas Tech, McGuire spent five years at Baylor, where he served as the team’s tight ends and defensive ends coach before being promoted to associate head coach in 2019. McGuire also served as the team’s interim head coach when Matt Rhule left the program during the 2020 season.
McGuire had a Hall of Fame career as a high school football coach at Cedar Hill High School, where he coached for 14 seasons. He was a three-time state champion at Cedar Hill and a nine-time Texas state high school coach of the year.
McGuire graduated from the University of Texas. He is married to his wife, Debbie, and together they have two kids.
