Jeff Simmermon Biography
Jeff Simmermon possesses a unique combination of corporate and creative experience. For five years, he was the director of digital communications for Time Warner Cable, a Fortune 150 company. In this role, he developed crisis communications, overall story and messaging arcs, and edited/developed the official company blog. In addition, he has spent the last decade honing his performance skills as a standup comic in bars and clubs in New York City.
As a testament to his storytelling prowess, Simmermon has won multiple Moth StorySLAMS, including a GrandSLAM in March 2014. His engaging narratives have been featured not only on "Risk!" and PBS' "Stories From the Stage" but also on "This American Life" and The Moth's podcast. Written versions of his stories have also appeared in The Paris Review Daily and Newsweek.
Simmermon hosts and co-produces “The Reluctant Phoenix” podcast and produced and performed in "And I Am Not Lying," a variety show that ran until 2019. He recorded a comedy album under the same name in 2017, and his second album, "Why You Should Be Happy," was released on May 5, 2020, and is available at all major digital music and comedy outlets. "And I Am Not Lying" reached #1 on the iTunes comedy charts shortly after its release in June 2017. It was later pressed onto pink vinyl and distributed by Dischord Records.
Moving beyond the stage, Simmermon imparts his storytelling skills and experience in a semi-private class he teaches. In the corporate sector, his clients include CGI, Inc., InVision Communications, the International Development Bank, NYU, and Burning Man. In addition, he has offered freelance services, developing social media strategies and content for clients such as VO5, Nissin Famous Foods, and Dunkin' Donuts.
