Japandroids Biography
The Canadian rock band Japandroids, comprised of Brian King and David Prowse, hail from Vancouver, British Columbia. Rising to prominence after the 2009 release of their debut album "Post-Nothing," they quickly earned a reputation for their vibrant blending of classic and punk rock influences. Their music, defined as "one part classic rock, one part punk," gained significant traction, leading to their signing with the independent Canadian label Unfamiliar Records in January 2009. Their debut album, "Post-Nothing," was lauded for its rawness and energy and resulted in their signing to Polyvinyl Record Co. in June 2009.
The release of their second album, "Celebration Rock," in 2012 cemented Japandroids' place in the music industry. The album not only received widespread critical acclaim but was also named one of The 10 Coolest Summer Albums of All Time by Rolling Stone. The duo's efforts didn't stop at studio recording; they toured heavily in support of both albums, performing approximately 500 shows in 44 countries between 2009 and 2013. Despite a health emergency that forced them to postpone their first full-scale North American tour, they continued to tour with supporting acts such as A Place To Bury Strangers, Health, and The Walkmen.
Japandroids' commitment to their craft and their fans was evident when they released a series of limited edition 7" singles in 2010. After a three-year hiatus, they reconvened in New Orleans in late 2014 to begin writing new material. Their album "Near to the Wild Heart of Life" was recorded in the fall of 2015 and mixed the following spring. The band continued to tour extensively, performing over 150 shows in 23 countries between October 2016 and October 2018. Their dedication to live performance culminated in the release of a live album, "Massey Fucking Hall," in 2020, which was recorded at the iconic Massey Hall in Toronto.
