Jackie Hill Perry Biography
Jackie Hill Perry is an accomplished poet, writer, hip-hop artist, and public speaker. Hill Perry initially garnered popularity for her powerful performances of spoken word pieces at the Passion 4 Christ Movement (P4CM). Alongside her performances, she also made a name for herself by writing for various Christian ministry organizations, including The Resurgence and John Piper's Desiring God, where she uniquely addresses Christianity and homosexuality.
In January 2014, Hill Perry signed to the Portland, Oregon-based Christian hip-hop label Humble Beast and later released her debut album, "The Art of Joy," on November 4, 2014. Her craft has been influenced by the likes of Mali Music, Propaganda, and Ebony Moore. Another major influence on her theologically is Pastor John Piper, an influence so profound that she based her album "Art of Joy" on his book "Desiring God."
Hill Perry's work extends beyond music and writing. She is an active staff member of the Legacy Movement ministry and has appeared as a guest musician on several Christian hip-hop recordings. Together with her husband, she is part of "Poets in Autumn," a worldwide tour featuring Christian spoken word artists. Additionally, in 2019, they started a podcast called "With the Perrys," where they discuss a range of topics such as relationships, theology, politics, race, and parenting.
As an author, Hill Perry has made significant contributions to Christian literature. Her book, "Gay Girl, Good God," as well as her Bible study for women and teen girls titled "Jude: Contending for the Faith in Today's Culture," have garnered attention. Her third book, "Upon Waking," was released in 2023. Continually drawing from her own experiences, Hill Perry maintains that she is an ex-lesbian and that her transition to heterosexuality is among the profound changes God worked in her life after converting to Christianity in 2008.
