Hot Hot Heat Biography
Hot Hot Heat, formed in Victoria, British Columbia, began as a synth-based group before evolving into an indie rock band. The lineup shifted when keyboardist Steve Bays assumed vocal duties and guitarist Dante DeCaro joined, alongside founding members Paul Hawley on drums and Dustin Hawthorne on bass. This configuration introduced a melodic approach and distinctive wordplay, first showcased on the EP "Knock Knock Knock." The EP and tours with bands such as the Walkmen and the Dismemberment Plan led to the release of the full-length album "Make Up the Breakdown." An additional album, "Scenes One Through Thirteen," featured the band's earlier material and was released on Ohev.
Following the release of "Make Up the Breakdown," Hot Hot Heat signed with Warner Bros. After extensive touring, the band recorded new material, with DeCaro departing prior to the completion of the album "Elevator," which was released by Sire. "Elevator" received a Juno Award nomination. The band then collaborated with producer Rob Cavallo, known for work with Green Day and My Chemical Romance, on the album "Happiness Ltd." Parker Bossley later joined as bassist, and the band continued recording, resulting in the release of "Future Breeds."
Hot Hot Heat remained active in the Canadian indie rock and alternative music scenes, recognized for energetic live performances and their influence within the genre. The group released a self-titled album before disbanding, concluding their career in alternative and indie rock music.
