Ezekiel J. Walker Biography
Ezekiel J. Walker is an author and screenwriter whose work explores the lived experiences of African Americans and the social forces shaping Black culture in the United States. A writer from Charlotte, North Carolina, Walker attended Winston-Salem State University, a historically Black university, before publishing his first nonfiction book examining shared Black experiences. He has authored additional books focused on African American culture and is the founder of Offa Wordz, a platform dedicated to telling stories about influential individuals within the Black community.
Walker published his first book, "Reminiscent of a Familiar Face," which provides commentary on challenges faced by Black men and women and strategies for confronting those challenges. The book features interviews with poet Nikki Giovanni, author Terrie M. Williams, researcher Dr. Richard Lapchick, and others who contribute their perspectives and expertise. Walker later released "The Madea Factory," a book that critically examines the works of entertainment mogul Tyler Perry and the Madea character. He also created a documentary that visually explores the history of negative caricatures and stereotypical portrayals of African Americans as related to the Madea character.
Walker's book "Black as I Wanna Be" addresses recurring incidents of police brutality and discusses the changes needed to address institutional controls affecting African Americans. He collaborates with scholars, community activists, and artists to develop solutions to issues facing the Black community. Walker also published "Seventy Moons," a poetry collection that recounts his first seventy days and nights in Indiana, a period marked by personal adversity and artistic transformation.
In addition to his books, Walker writes screenplays that focus on African American culture, authenticity, and social relevance. His screenplays have received awards and have been selected by more than 20 film festivals. Walker's books are included in college curricula and HBCU libraries, reflecting the academic and cultural impact of his work. He is recognized for presenting comprehensive and balanced perspectives that encourage critical thinking about societal traditions and barriers.
