Daniel Levin is author of The Last Ember, the New York Times bestselling international suspense thriller where "archaeology is politics" and history is much more fragile than we think. The idea for The Last Ember came to Levin while he was clerking for the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Israel. He came across a case dealing with illegal excavation and theft of archaeological artifacts, and began researching similar cases around the world. He found that some of the largest sites of archaeological destruction were damaged for purely political purposes ? simply as a way to erase the past ? and then it occurred to him, what if someone was politically motivated to control ? not the future, but the past?
