David Daokui Li Biography
David Daokui Li is a leading economist in China, holding the Mansfield Freeman Professorship of Economics and serving as director of the Center for China in the World Economy at Tsinghua University's School of Economics and Management. Li teaches courses on economic transition, corporate finance, international economics, and China's economy. He earned a doctorate in economics from Harvard University and a bachelor of science from Tsinghua University as part of the first cohort of graduates from the School of Economics and Management.
Li's academic career includes faculty positions at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the University of Michigan. He served as a National Fellow of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University and was appointed founding dean of the Schwarzman Scholars program at Tsinghua University. Li is co-president of the Society for the Analysis of Government and Economics alongside Eric S. Maskin, Nobel Laureate in Economics. He has also served as editor for Journal of Comparative Economics and Economics Bulletin.
In addition to his academic work, Li has contributed to economic policy in China, serving on the Monetary Policy Committee of China's central bank and as an external advisor to the International Monetary Fund. He has held the role of chief economist at the New Development Bank and is a member of the Global Agenda Councils and a rapporteur for the International Financial Institutions Reform Cluster of the Global Redesign Initiative of the World Economic Forum.
