Carmen Ejogo Biography
Carmen Ejogo is a British actress and singer known for her work in film, television, and music. Ejogo began her career in the entertainment industry at a young age, making her film debut in the musical "Absolute Beginners" alongside David Bowie. She later hosted her own pop music program and served as a presenter for the children's series "Saturday Disney." These early roles established a foundation for a transatlantic career spanning a wide range of genres and characters.
Ejogo gained recognition for her portrayal of Coretta Scott King in the HBO film "Boycott" and later in Ava DuVernay's historical drama "Selma." Her performance in "Selma" earned her the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, as well as nominations for the Independent Spirit Award and the Black Reel Award. The film received multiple Golden Globe nominations and a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards.

She appeared as Seraphina Picquery in "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" and its sequel, "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald." Additional film work includes "It Comes at Night," Ridley Scott's "Alien: Covenant," and "Roman J. Israel, Esq." with Denzel Washington. Her role in "Born to Be Blue," a film about jazz musician Chet Baker, earned her a Canadian Screen Award nomination.
On television, Ejogo has appeared in the NBC crime drama "Kidnapped," the Starz anthology series "The Girlfriend Experience," and HBO's "True Detective," where she played Amelia Reardon. She has also been featured in the Netflix limited series "Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker," the Showtime series "Your Honor," and Boots Riley's Amazon series "I'm a Virgo."
In addition to acting, Ejogo is a vocalist who has collaborated with various musical artists. She wrote and performed lead vocals on the track "Candles" by DJ Alex Reece, contributed to the "Sparkle" original soundtrack, and sang in Kenneth Branagh's "Love's Labour's Lost."
