Anthony Amore Biography
Anthony Amore is an expert in security matters, especially those related to cultural property and homeland security. He serves as the Director of Security at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, overseeing the ongoing efforts to recover thirteen artworks stolen from the museum on March 18, 1990. In 2011, he co-authored the Wall Street Journal true-crime bestseller "Stealing Rembrandts: The Untold Stories of Notorious Art Heists." His subsequent book, "The Art of the Con: The Most Notorious Fakes, Frauds, and Forgeries in the Art World," was released in 2015. Additionally, he is a lecturer in homeland security at Fisher College and provides analysis on security and terrorism issues for Fox 25 News in Boston.
Amore's role as an art theft investigator has been recognized in various publications including the Boston Herald and in the book "The Gardner Heist: The True Story of the World's Largest Unsolved Art Theft" (Smithsonian, 2009). He has also accumulated fifteen years of experience in national security, law, intelligence, and crisis management with federal agencies such as the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)’s Security Division.
Notably, Amore played a key role in the reorganization and regionalization of national homeland security efforts following the events of September 11th. He was the lead agent responding to the attempted terrorist attack by Richard Reid, the so-called “Shoe Bomber,” in December 2001. His significant contributions were acknowledged with nominations for a Service to America Medal in 2002 and 2003. He continues to share his expertise through blogs and was previously a columnist for the Boston Herald, where he wrote the bi-weekly "Security Brief" column.
