First place at the Goodwill Games Halfpipe event; 2000. Placed first in the U.S. Open Halfpipe competition; 1999. Won two gold medals at the ESPN Winter X-Games; 1998. Growing up in a financially unstable home, Ross has been dedicated to give back to his community, recently forming the Ross Powers Foundation in Vermont for talented athletes needing financial assistance.
Ross learned to snowboard on Bromley Mountain, where his mother worked on the weekends. Interests include skateboarding, wakeboarding, mountain biking, soccer, surfing, and moto-cross.

Olympic Snowboarding: A Clean Sweep for US - 2002-02-12
Ross Powers was the first American snowboarder to win a medal when he captured the bronze in the men's halfpipe in Nagano, Japan, four years ago. The halfpipe has athletes sliding down a huge trough cut in the snow, while performing tricks or maneuvers, such as double or triple twists, while in the air.
