Tory Belleci Biography
Tory Belleci is a television personality, model maker, and filmmaker whose career encompasses Hollywood special effects, science television, and reality programming. After graduating from San Francisco State University's film school, Belleci began working in the special effects industry, spending nearly a decade as a model maker, sculptor, and painter at Industrial Light & Magic. His work includes building models for major Hollywood productions such as "Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace," "Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones," "Starship Troopers," "Galaxy Quest," "Terminator 3," "The Matrix Reloaded," "The Matrix Revolutions," and "Van Helsing."
Belleci's transition to television began at Jamie Hyneman's M5 Industries, leading to his involvement with Discovery Channel's "MythBusters." Initially working behind the scenes, Belleci joined the on-screen build team in the show's second season. Alongside Grant Imahara and Kari Byron, Belleci became a regular on the program, often performing high-risk stunts during myth testing. "MythBusters" became a prominent pop-science show, recognized for its influence on science communication and entertainment.
After "MythBusters," Belleci expanded his work in science-driven television. He co-hosted the Netflix show "White Rabbit Project" with Byron and Imahara, and hosted Science Channel's "Pumpkin Chunkin'" and "The Explosion Show." Belleci also starred on "Thrill Factor" for Travel Channel and made guest appearances on The Rachael Ray Show and The Late Show with Craig Ferguson as a science entertainer. Behind the camera, Belleci has written and directed several short films, including "Sand Trooper," which screened at Slamdance Film Festival and aired on SyFy Channel.
Belleci continued to explore science and engineering on multiple platforms, starring with Richard Hammond in Amazon's "The Great Escapists," and hosting "Motor MythBusters" with engineer Bisi Ezerioha and mechanic Faye Hadley, focusing on automotive myths. Belleci and Byron also launched the "Mythfits" podcast, discussing science, history, and culture, as well as their experiences on "MythBusters." Belleci's career highlights his expertise in special effects, science communication, and hands-on experimentation across film, television, and digital media.
