Tamar Huggins Biography
Tamar Huggins is a Canadian technology entrepreneur, author, and educator whose career focuses on making technology accessible, equitable, and culturally relevant. After losing her advertising job during a recession, Huggins transitioned to entrepreneurship, leveraging her background in media planning to develop platforms that support underrepresented communities in the technology sector. Before her technology ventures, Huggins founded Knexxion Communication Group, a boutique public relations agency, and worked as a digital media planner for major brands including H&M, Nike Canada, and Cadbury Adams.
Huggins established DRIVEN, the first technology accelerator for BIPOC leaders in Canada, which raised $1.1 million for Black, Brown, and women-led technology startups. These startups have collectively raised more than $20 million. Building on this foundation, Huggins launched Tech Spark, the first company dedicated to advancing students of color, women, and girls in technology education, and led the development of the first technology entrepreneurship course taught by teachers within the Ontario education system. The school educated 1,500 students in its first two years.
As the founder and CEO of Tech Spark AI, Huggins leads an education technology company that uses culturally responsive artificial intelligence to promote inclusive innovation in underserved communities. She developed Spark Plug AI, a generative AI chatbot designed to center the Black experience using African American Vernacular English and cultural intelligence. The platform was developed using ethical data sourced from the works of authors of the Harlem Renaissance and activists of the Civil Rights movement. Huggins became the first woman to raise more than $1 million to build a personalized learning platform driven by student culture, data, and artificial intelligence, with Tech Spark's seed funding round led by TD Bank.
Huggins also created Legacy Intelligence, a framework that transforms institutional memory into AI-powered systems designed for ownership and impact. Her work has supported more than 200,000 students and helped raise over $20 million for Black and Brown founders. As an author, Huggins released her first book, "Bossed Up: 100 Truths to Becoming Your Own Boss, God's Way!" and has been featured in media outlets including Black Entertainment Television, Canadian Living, and The Huffington Post. She has received recognition as the Harry Jerome Young Entrepreneur and as one of 100 Black Women to Watch. Huggins is recognized as a leading voice in artificial intelligence, education, and digital sovereignty, with features in Essence, BET, TechCrunch, and Black Enterprise.
