Ray Lucas Biography
Ray Lucas is a former American football quarterback, broadcaster, and public speaker whose career spans professional sports, media, and community leadership. Lucas played seven seasons in the NFL from 1996 to 2002, suiting up for the New England Patriots, New York Jets, and Miami Dolphins. Known for his toughness and resilience, he earned respect across the league as a reliable backup and spot starter during his tenure.
Following his playing career, Lucas transitioned into broadcasting, becoming a familiar voice and face for SportsNet New York (SNY). As a studio analyst on Jets Nation, he provides pregame and postgame analysis, as well as weekly commentary on team performance and league developments. He has also contributed as a color analyst for the Rutgers Football Radio Network, further expanding his presence in football media.
Off the field, Lucas has been candid about the personal challenges he faced after retiring from professional football, including struggles with depression and addiction to painkillers. His journey through recovery—and his willingness to speak openly about mental health—has made him an impactful advocate for former athletes and others dealing with similar issues. In March 2018, Lucas was appointed Executive Director of the Harrison Housing Authority in Harrison, New Jersey, continuing a family legacy of public service in a role previously held by his father for nearly three decades. In this capacity, he has focused on community development and housing initiatives, bringing leadership and lived experience to the public sector.
