Phil Parsons Biography
Phil Parsons is an American former professional stock-car racer, team owner and television analyst whose career has spanned more than four decades in NASCAR. Born June 21, 1957, in Detroit, he grew up surrounded by motorsports and followed the competitive path set by his older brother, 1973 NASCAR champion Benny Parsons. Driven by his own ambitions, he carved out a respected presence across multiple NASCAR series.
Parsons made his early mark in what is now the NASCAR Xfinity Series, earning his first series victory at Bristol Motor Speedway in 1982. His performances there helped launch him into the sport’s premier level. Over 13 seasons and more than 200 starts in the NASCAR Cup Series, he built a reputation as a consistent and determined competitor. His crowning achievement came in 1988 at Talladega Superspeedway, where he captured his lone Cup Series win in the Winston 500 and went on to secure a career-best ninth-place finish in the season standings.
After stepping away from full-time racing, Parsons transitioned smoothly into other facets of the sport. He appeared in the NASCAR garage as a team owner, helping develop emerging talent and contributing to the business side of racing. In broadcasting, he became a familiar voice to fans through his work as a longtime analyst for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and ARCA Menards Series, offering insight with the perspective of a seasoned driver.
A graduate of Oakland University with a degree in business management, Parsons has blended professional adaptability with an enduring passion for racing. He continues to live in North Carolina, where he remains connected to the motorsports community.
