Noel Jones Biography
Bishop Noel Jones is a Jamaican-American Pentecostal bishop recognized for his influence in contemporary Christian ministry and leadership within the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW), a prominent Oneness Pentecostal denomination. Jones earned a Bachelor of Science in Theology from Aenon Bible College and received an honorary doctoral degree from the International Circle of Faith College, now known as Life College and Seminary. His early experiences shaped his commitment to the ministry of reconciliation, enabling him to connect with individuals across diverse backgrounds, cultures, and denominations.
At age 26, Jones accepted his first pastorate at Bethel Temple of Longview in Longview, Texas. He later succeeded Bishop Robert W. McMurray as pastor of Greater Bethany Community Church in South Los Angeles, California. Under Jones' leadership, the church grew significantly, prompting a relocation to a larger facility in Gardena, rebranded as City of Refuge Church. The church now serves approximately 17,000 members and is recognized as one of the leading megachurches in the region. Jones also serves as Diocesan Bishop of the Northern California District Council of the PAW, overseeing multiple churches and promoting doctrinal unity.
Jones founded Noel Jones Ministries, a platform for spreading the gospel through video and audio messages. His ministry includes rehabilitative programs and outreach for the deaf, artists, singles, incarcerated individuals, and youth. He has served on the Board of Directors as a resident bishop for the California District Council of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World and was honored by the Mayor of Syracuse, New York, for his role in establishing a city-wide, multi-cultural, non-denominational conference. Jones hosts a weekly radio broadcast and appears regularly on the Word Network.
English film director and producer Sophie Fiennes directed the documentary film "Hoover Street Revival" about Greater Bethany Community Church. Jones was also featured on the Oxygen reality series "Preachers of L.A.," which explored the ministries of high-profile pastors. Music is integral to his ministry; the City of Refuge Sanctuary Choir released the album "Welcome to the City," which appeared on the Billboard 200 and reached number one on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart.
