Mindy Lubber Biography
Mindy Lubber is the CEO and president of Ceres, a Boston-based nonprofit focused on integrating sustainability into capital markets. Lubber has led the organization since its early years and was a founding board member at its launch, providing her with a deep connection to Ceres' mission. She previously served as a senior policy advisor at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and was named regional administrator under President Bill Clinton. Lubber also founded and served as CEO of Green Century Capital Management and was president of the National Environmental Law Center.
Lubber has worked with institutional investors, corporate boards, and executives to incorporate responsible investment and sustainable business practices into their strategies. She encourages capital market leaders to consider material financial risks and opportunities related to climate change, water scarcity, and nature loss in their decision-making. Lubber serves on the steering committees of global initiatives such as Climate Action 100+ and the Net Zero Asset Managers initiative. Under her leadership, Ceres developed the Global Reporting Initiative, which is used by thousands of companies worldwide to report environmental, social, and economic impacts. Ceres also advocated for Securities and Exchange Commission rules requiring publicly traded companies to disclose climate and water risks.
Lubber regularly addresses policymakers on the need for stronger clean energy and water policies and has contributed to shifting the sustainability conversation toward economic and job impacts. She played a role in building business support for the Paris Agreement and was recognized by Vogue Magazine as a climate leader. The Ceres Accelerator, under Lubber's direction, organized support for SEC climate disclosure rulings from hundreds of investors representing a significant portion of global assets under management. She is frequently quoted in business and financial news outlets and writes columns for Forbes.com and Reuters.com on sustainability topics.
Lubber has received the United Nations Champions of the Earth Entrepreneurial Vision award, has been named to Barron's Magazine's list of the 100 most influential women in U.S. finance, and has received the Climate Visionary Award from Earth Day Network, the William K. Reilly Award for Environmental Leadership from American University, and the Skoll Foundation's Award for Social Entrepreneurship.
