Marisa Zeppieri-Caruana is an investigative health journalist, author, and patient advocate whose work serves the lupus and autoimmune disease community. Diagnosed with systemic lupus at age 23, Zeppieri-Caruana experienced symptoms since childhood but was not tested until adulthood. Formally educated in chemistry and fine art, she was preparing to graduate with a nursing degree when she received her diagnosis. During a period of illness, she returned to writing and began a new career focused on health journalism and patient advocacy.
Zeppieri-Caruana is the founder of LupusChick.com, a New York-based nonprofit and online community supporting patients and families affected by autoimmune diseases. LupusChick.com reaches more than 500,000 people monthly, providing resources and support through its website, social media, YouTube channel, and speaking engagements across the United States. The organization also awards college stipends to individuals living with chronic illness, supporting their educational and financial independence.
As an author, Zeppieri-Caruana has written books including "Lupus: Real Life, Real Patients, Real Talk," which features stories from individuals living with lupus.
