Kari Kurto Biography
Kari Kurto serves as the National Science of Reading Project Director at The Reading League (TRL), where she oversees initiatives such as The Reading League Compass, the Curriculum Evaluation Guidelines, and the Curriculum Navigation Reports. She also leads efforts to support multilingual and English learners and manages several communities of practice.
Before joining TRL, Kurto was a literacy specialist at the Rhode Island Department of Education, leading statewide efforts to implement the Rhode Island Right to Read Act. She is an Orton-Gillingham practitioner and has taught at Middlebridge School in Narragansett, RI, and Rawson Saunders School in Austin, TX. Earlier in her career, Kurto worked as a casting director in Los Angeles.
Kurto is a member of the Path Forward advisory group and has presented to schools, districts, professional organizations, and state education departments. She is certified by the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators (AOGPE), the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), and the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI).
