Jordan Shlain Biography
Dr. Jordan Shlain is a practicing internist based in San Francisco. He graduated with honors from UC Berkeley and was accepted to Harvard’s Center for International Development (WorldTeach) to teach high-school chemistry, physics and biology in rural Western Kenya. When he returned from Africa, he relocated to Lucca, Italy where he opened and operated a successful bed and breakfast. Later, he graduated from Georgetown University Medical School and completed his internal medicine residency in San Francisco.
Dr. Shlain is acknowledged in the Healthspottr’s list of the 100 most influential healthcare innovators and is an active consultant for companies, non‐profits, and physician organizations. In 1997, he founded the Current Health Medical Group which operates a full service, office and house-call practice. He also founded one of the first AI digital health companies, HealthLoop, aimed at addressing a significant challenge in medicine: monitoring patients in between visits. Furthermore, he established Private Medical, a comprehensive multi-family Office for Health and Medicine, in 2002. It has served members in locations such as New York, Beverly Hills, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Miami, and Santa Monica.
As an advocate of Direct Practice medicine, Dr. Shlain has provided mentorship for numerous physicians in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has been a guest lecturer on health care economics to Pre-Med students not only at his alma mater UC Berkeley, but also at prestigious institutions such as Princeton, Columbia, and Stanford. In addition to his role as the president of the national American Academy of Private Physicians, he is co-founder and chair of EatReal, a non-profit initiative working to improve the meals in America's largest fast food chain - public schools. He is also actively engaged in local medical politics and innovation, having served as an assistant clinical professor at UCSF and a board member for the San Francisco Medical Society.
In 2009, he was appointed by the Mayor of San Francisco to serve on the San Francisco Health Commission. A year later, he sat as a commissioner for the Health Services Systems Board, which is accountable for the allocation of over $700M for the healthcare of over 110,000 San Francisco Employees and retirees.
In 2011, he was named to the physician advisory board of Ingenix, a global leader in health IT analytics and services. Additionally, he advises numerous venture funds, applying his wealth of experience in healthcare and entrepreneurship to provide strategic insights.
