Jon Dore Biography
Jon Dore is a Canadian comedian, actor, and writer recognized for his offbeat sensibility and bait-and-switch comedic style. Named one of "10 comics to watch" by Variety Magazine, Dore began his professional journey co-hosting Rogers Television's Daytime, where he developed his improvisational skills and received the Impression Award for Best On-Air Personality. He later worked as a correspondent for CTV's "Canadian Idol," appeared on his own "Comedy Now!" special for CTV and The Comedy Network, and was featured on the A Channel comedy special "Toronto Laughs."
Dore's breakthrough as a creator came with "The Jon Dore Television Show," a Canadian mockumentary-style comedy series that aired on The Comedy Network in Canada and on Independent Film Channel in the United States. The series earned Dore and his writing team the Canadian Comedy Award for Best Series Writing, and Dore received the Award for Best Performance (Male). He went on to host four seasons of HBO Canada's "Funny as Hell" and starred in stand-up specials including "Comedy Central Presents...Jon Dore," "Big Questions Huge Answers," "Live At Gotham," and "The Bonnaroo Experience and Mash Up."
Dore's television credits include a guest-starring role on CBS' Emmy Award-winning series "How I Met Your Mother," a lead role on ABC's "How to Live With Your Parents," and a starring role in Amazon's "The Lake." He has made multiple guest appearances on "Conan," "Baroness Von Sketch Show," "@Midnight," "Inside Amy Schumer," and "Hart of Dixie." Dore also starred in "Humour Resources," a Canadian television comedy series on CBC Television, portraying a fictionalized version of himself as a retired comedian turned human resources manager.
Dore is a Juno Award winner for Best Comedy Album and is active on the comedy club and festival circuit in Canada and the United States, performing at Just For Laughs Festivals in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver, as well as festivals in Halifax, Winnipeg, Portland, and the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. He also hosts "The Stand Up Show with Jon Dore" for Just For Laughs, which airs on CTV Comedy. With a career spanning stand-up, acting, writing, and hosting, Dore is established as a versatile and enduring voice in Canadian comedy.
