Jason Segel Biography
Jason Segel is an actor, comedian, screenwriter, and producer whose career spans television, film, and literature. Segel began his career with director and producer Judd Apatow on the television series "Freaks and Geeks" and "Undeclared" before gaining prominence for leading roles in a range of comedy films, in which he has starred, written, and produced. Segel is known on television for his role as Marshall Eriksen on the comedy "How I Met Your Mother," a sitcom that ran for nine seasons.
Segel's film breakthrough came with "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," which he wrote and starred in. He also co-wrote and starred in "The Muppets." His film credits include "Knocked Up," "I Love You, Man," "Bad Teacher," "The Five-Year Engagement," "This Is 40," and "Sex Tape," as well as family films such as "Despicable Me" and "The Muppets." Segel won a Critics Choice Award for Best Song for "Life's a Happy Song" from "The Muppets." He also received the Harvard University Hasty Pudding Man of the Year award.
Segel received recognition for his portrayal of author David Foster Wallace in the independent biographical drama film "The End of the Tour," earning an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Male Lead. He created and starred in the American drama television series "Dispatches from Elsewhere" on AMC. In addition to acting, Segel co-authored the young adult novel "Otherworld," followed by "OtherEarth" and "OtherLife." Segel is also a musician and songwriter, with his music featured in projects including "Freaks and Geeks," "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," "I Love You, Man," "How I Met Your Mother," and "Get Him to the Greek."
Segel co-created "Shrinking," an American comedy-drama television series in which he stars as a therapist who becomes more involved in his patients' lives. The series premiered on Apple TV+ and has received positive reviews for its performances, writing, humor, and exploration of grief. "Shrinking" received 10 Emmy nominations, including an Outstanding Lead Actor nomination for Segel.
Segel starred in the film "Over Your Dead Body," which premiered at the South by Southwest Film & TV Festival. The film features Segel alongside Samara Weaving, Timothy Olyphant, Juliette Lewis, Paul Guilfoyle, and Keith Jardine, and follows a dysfunctional couple who travel to a remote cabin with secret intentions. Segel also co-wrote and stars in the psychological thriller "Sponsor." Throughout his career, Segel has worked across comedy and drama, contributing to television, film, and literature.
