Ivelyse Andino Biography
Ivelyse Andino is an Afro-Latina health equity innovator and entrepreneur with a career focused on the intersection of health, technology, and community empowerment. As a healthcare strategist and abolitionist, Andino has worked in health technology for more than a decade, contributing to the development of digital health solutions, including the launch of a health app distribution platform. She began her professional journey in marketing for major biotech companies such as Genentech and Pfizer, later collaborating with organizations including National Health Service London and Kaiser Permanente.
Andino's experience founding Radical Health was influenced by personal encounters with systemic healthcare disparities, particularly during her mother's cancer diagnosis. Radical Health is recognized as the first Latina-owned and operated Benefit Corporation in New York, combining Andino's healthcare expertise with her background in community organizing. Through Radical Health, Andino advances healthcare fluency, a concept designed to bridge gaps between marginalized communities and the medical system.
Drawing from her own experiences in a historically marginalized community, Andino established Radical Health by engaging directly with local residents, including undocumented individuals, women of color, elderly people, youth, and LGBTQ community members. Radical Health employs indigenous restorative circle practices and person-centered innovation to support underserved populations. Andino has discussed topics such as public benefit corporation incorporation, intentional leadership, and aligning purpose with profit as a social entrepreneur.
Andino has received recognition in the healthcare and social innovation sectors, including the Obama Foundation's "My Brother's Keeper" Grant for work on social determinants of health in New York City community schools. She has been named among Rock Health's Top 50 in Digital Health Luminaries, is a Roddenberry Foundation Fellow, an Aspen Institute Health Community Fellow, and was listed as one of New York City's Top 25 Whole Health Heroes by Empire BlueCross BlueShield and Crain's New York. Her work has appeared in Washington Post, Nasdaq, Crain's New York, and Forbes, with bylines in Latina Magazine and Well + Good.
In addition to her healthcare work, Andino is the executive producer of the film "Mataron a Pedro," which explores the story of Pedro Albizu Campos and his legacy in American history. The film, directed by Kristian Mercado, premiered at the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival. Andino serves on the board of the National Institute for Reproductive Justice and BX (Re)Birth Collective, and is an external advisor for the American Medical Association Equity and Innovation Board.
